Chemical properties Golden yellow needle crystals. 90% of the product has a melting point of 286-288 °C. Soluble in 50% alcohol, slightly soluble in water, the solution is weakly alkaline. The sodium salt of this product ([521-24-4]) is easily soluble in water and slightly soluble in 95% ethanol.
Use Dye intermediates. The sodium salt is also used for colorimetric determination of amines, amino acids and sulfonamide derivatives.
Production method 1-Amino-2-naphthol-4-sulfonic acid is oxidized with dilute nitric acid. The resulting paste product is orange-yellow due to the release of nitrogen dioxide. A saturated ammonium chloride solution is added to form 1,2-naphthoquinone. Ammonium-4-sulfonate. It is dissolved in activated water containing bromine and decolorized with activated carbon, and then potassium chloride is precipitated by adding saturated potassium chloride, and the yield is 17-18%.
